On Thursday 20th Ryan, Ultan, Odhrán, Caitlin and Olivia turned up to participate in the 4th of the Power NI series organised by Lagan Valley A.C. and hosted at the Mary Peter’s Track in Belfast. These 5 athletes and a few others have been the most regular participants at competitive meetings and the improvement shown by them is beginning to become very apparent. Ultan and Odhrán are steadily improving with every race and are up there with the best in their age group, while Ryan O’Hare is one of the most improved athletes at the club – with every race he is gaining on the other 2 lads and this is down to his dedication and effort at training and his gritty performances in races. Keep it up Ryan! Caitlin and Olivia have potential to be extremely good athletes and again this is down to attitude and hard work at training.
On the night Ultan was placed 2nd in his 60m heat while Odhrán and Ryan were 4th in theirs. Unfortunately none of the boys were placed in the top 3. The girls faired better with Olivia finishing a brilliant second overall and Caitlin 5th.
In the 1200m everyone of our athletes ran exceptional races. Caitlin finished 3rd in a time of 4:40:97, with Olivia in 4th just 6 seconds behind her. In the boys race Ryan finished 12th overall 4:39:30, with Ultan placed 5th with a time of 4:28:24. Odhrán was overall winner with a brilliant time of 4:12:16 – well done Odhrán, you’ve got your Mojo back!!
Ultan and Ryan also took part in the long jump and did well, however, the 1200m was straight after the long jump and both lads had to run the length of the track, change into spikes and run 1200m immediately which was the only downer on the night.
Well done each and every one of you!! Your times and placings in your events are a credit to the hard work you and your coaches put in 3 times a week. Keep it up – we expect big things from you all in the future.
