Antrim IAAF Cross Country at Greenmount (Jan 12th 2013)

Saturday 12th January 2013 saw the “new” 3 Ways A.C. compete for the first time since reforming. The venue was Greenmount in Antrim, and the meeting was the IAAF International Cross Country. Leading the way for 3 Ways  was Gemma Doyle in the Girls U13 race. Gemma had the glory run, becoming the first 3 Ways athlete to run competitively since the club reformed. Gemma was followed by Tara O’Neill in the Girls Primary school event for P6 & P7s covering a distance of 1100m. Both girls ran brilliantly on a tough and occasionally very muddy course.

The club were also represented in the boys Primary Schools event for P6 & P7s, again over 1100m, by Cathal Brennan, Odhrán Hamilton, Rio Rafferty-McConnell and Daragh Connolly. By the time the boys ran the course was well cut up & very boggy in patches. Despite this the boys had 2 top ten finishers. Cathal led the way with a brilliant 3rd place, closely followed by Odhrán in 10th place. Rio came in 4 seconds behind Odhrán, with Daragh right on his heels.

Tara, Daragh & Odhrán had a brush with atheltics-celebrity when they were photographed with the 2 times European Senior Ladies Champion Fionnuala Britton, who went on to win the Ladies Senior event on the day.

Well done to all 6 athletes. On a bitter day, on a muddy course you all ran brilliantly. It was a credit to the effort you put in during training. You did 3 Ways A.C. proud on your first competitive outing.

Photographs of the day can be seen on the Gallery link, and full event results can be found at the following link –> http://www.athleticsni.org/Results/Antrim-IAAF-Cross-Country.
